Article of the Week Reflection - The Tell-Tale Bacteria
Please post your reflection prior to Friday of this week. Remember your reflection should be a minimum of a half page. You can reflect on any or all of the following questions:
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? Why? Why not?
Do some research on microbes and share what you find.
Research some other forensic techniques and share what you find.

Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? Why or why not. Yes i do think it will, because microbes seem like they are very useful because if a criminal comes and robs your house then wipes up any finger prints or evidence of who they are then you really have no evidence of who he or she really is. So no matter what they wipe up now, those little microbs will always be left behind. And that just makes the investigaters job a whole lot easier. So now the criminals will never realize it but they are always going to leave a little something behind for the police to find.
Do you think this technology will be used to detect criminals? Why or why not? Yes I think this technology will help identify criminals easier. If someone went to break in to your house and they touch an object and try to wipe it off, the microbes won't come off. Thats what makes it an easy job for investigators to track down the criminal(s). So it's easy for criminals to not get away with anything.
Do you think technology will eventually be used to detect criminals?
I do just because technology is moving so fast. you may but Ipod touch, and next thing you know there is an Ipad. YOu never know when the next will be coming out it could be tomorrow or in ounth or longer. And if they do figure out how to detect crime with technology I think it will great. Then maybe people there won't be as much crime if figure i can be tracked down just by my finger tips.
do you thing technology will be able to detect criminals???
Yes i do because i think eventually they will be able to find criminals with finger prints because everyone has different finger prints and if they touched a door knob of something else they could find out whose it is and get them arrested. it would be a lot harder is everyone had the same finger prints.
Do you think this technology will be able to detect crimanals?
I am undecided wether they will be able to detect crimanals because I don't think it could be very useful in some cases but in other cases I think it will be. For example I think fingerprints are a lot more reliable for finding crimanals because it is harder to get rid of fingerprints, and you can get rid of your microbes by just wiping it off. But if the crimanal did not leave any fingerprints and you can find microbes then it can really help you find the crimanal. That's why I am undecided.
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? Why? or Why Not? I think it could detect criminals because it said that the microbes on your hands are like YOUR microbes. They tested 3 peoples microbes and they told them apart. If you touch a computer keyboard your microbes will end up on the keyboard. I think microbes are interesting because investigators can tell what microbes are yours and what microbes are other peoples.
One thing really stuck out to me was how unreliable fingerprints are, especially when you look at smudging etc... I am confident that the use of microbes will continue to evolve, and one day will be the common use in helping to solve crimes. I found it interesting that the studies that was done with the use of microbes was with computer keyboards. With the number of people using the internet and computers today, and the problems that are caused by them (hacking, cyber bullying), I would think microbes would definitely lend itself to decreasing these crimes.
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? Yes because some times finger prints smudge or you don't find any hair or D.N.A to identify the person. If you can't use the other ways this way would be perfect for the job. Although it has it's up side it also has down sides. For example some criminal get smart and take extra precautions to make sure they don't get caught, like wearing gloves so that they don't leave any finger print or microbe and cleaning up any D.N.A sample they might have left. But still this is a great idea and I think it would be really useful in the future.
Can you belive how much technolgy has gone up? It is crazy to think that 30 years ago we didn't even have dvd players, and now we can detect crimanals just by the bacteria on there hands. It is cool what scientist can come up with if they just put there mind to it. I think microbs wiil be a big help to solve crime because you can hide finger prints but you can't hid bacteria.
Yes because so far it's working and pretty much always criminals wear gloves,so when they put them on, the microbes get on the gloves and then anything the gloves touch, the microbes get on.The bad thing is that about anyone could have touched about anything. So for example, a house gets robbed and the criminal touches something and microbes get on it. The thing is, microbes never wash away and 50 people touched the same thing, and they don't know who the thief was.
Question 1: I think that microbes will be very helpful to detect criminals. Sometimes criminals wear gloves and smash the security cams, so they had to cover up their fingerprints. But the microbes from when they put the gloves on the microbes on the gloves go onto the things they touch. So it will help someday.
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? I think that microbes will eventually be used to help find criminals because there are a lot more microbes then fingerprints. If the criminals were stealing something and were wearing gloves you wouldn't see finger prints because there wearing gloves but you would see microbes because they had to put the gloves on . If the scientist want to get good information about the criminals they should use microbes
i think that all of these hand sanitizer commercial about the 99.9 percent of germs killed with one squirt are not true, because it will never kill all the germs on your hands. but its cool that they can find someone by just touching something.
I think it will be used to be used to detect crimials because because if the crimal leaves anything behind ( Fingerprints, Microbes, Hair etc)they can easily scan the crimials DNA, and track the guy ot girl down and arrest them. This type of technology can be very useful in probly any crime sence and will probly help any investogator track dow the crimial or crimials
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals why? or why not?
Yes i think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals because, It can be used to find out who did the crime,so then the person would go to jail. what things that you would use is (hair, fingerprint, microbes) to find out the person who did the crime. i think this technology will be useful, i think that they should use this technology. it would be really useful.
Do you thin that this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? I think that it will help catch criminals because you always leave microbes and you cant wipe them off once completely once they are on the surface. i think that in about 20 years crime will go down about 400%. i agree with Megan when she said, "I think it could detect criminals because it said that the microbes on your hands are like YOUR microbes. They tested 3 peoples microbes and they told them apart."
Do you think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals? Why/why not? I do think microbe technology will be used to detect criminals someday. I have a feeling that if they were able to carry out this experiment sucsessfully with 207 people, they will be able to do the same with 1,000 or even 10,000 people. If your microbes are truly like a second finger print, I predict this theroy will be proved correct. I also think that if criminal's can be identified by microbes, if will cause civilians to be more secure, knowing that anyone who breaks into thier home can be identified. I know it would make me more secure.... ~Emily
Do I think this technology will eventually be used to detect criminals. Yes because their is no one in the world who has the same fingerprints as you so it will be easy to find out who did it and as they say "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.' It could be used as a key to your house. Just get your mom and dad's fingerprint in.
Do you think this technology will be used to detect criminals?
I think that it will be useful because I think microbes are easier to find then fingerprints. Like the AoW said fingerprints can be smudged and microbes can't.But i also think they need to test more people but they should test them on the same keyboard.
Do you think that they will use microbes to detect criminals. I don't think they will because say a robber robs a bank. There are probably thousands of other peoples microbes on one dollar. Maybe even other thief's microbes. They bank owner could of robbed it but if a criminal touched the money at one point they'd blame the criminal. Plus, if you'd robbed a bank and the police didn't have your microbe mix, they wouldm't know who it was.
Microbes good or bad? I think microbes are good becuase they help police like in this paragraph. When police visit the scene of a crime they often look for finger prints to try to identify the culprit. They can also look for other things like hair to figure out who was there. But according to a recent study investigators could even use microbes to help crack a case.
That's why not all germs are bad. the soap kills 99.9% of germs. They mean the bad ones and that's why I support my answer.
do you think this technology will eventualy BE USED TO DECTECT CRIMINALS yes i think it will because is we all have the same finger prints then the internet will be a good soure to see who did the crime that is why i think the internet will be a good sourse to see who did the crime
yes!!i think that technollogy will soon be used to find criminals because the police can find a fingerprint that the person touched[if not smeared] andthen scan it into the computer and then you can easily find them .
