The article of the week combined two articles: "Losing the race ro Intellience" by Leonard Pitts, and "What happens when mom up plugs teens for six months" by Beth Harpaz. The Pitts article talked about the United States falling behind as an intellectual power in the world. The Harpaz article discussed the effects of electronics on the youth of today, and if these electronics are having a negative impact.
After reading the article I found the following to be interesting: 1. 28% of science teachers today are teaching evolution in their classroom. 2. Teens today do not know of a time prior to Google, e-mail, and instant messaging. 3. Many kids today do their homework with other distractions such as Facebook, music, and instant messaging. 4. The "giant" described in Pitt's piece was the United States.
I enjoyed reading these two articles. I thought both article shared a common theme of the intellect of youth in the United States. The United States is not the power that it once was, and there is no sign they will return to power anytime soon. I would recommend this article to anyone under the age of 18.
The article "Losing The Race For Intellegence" by Leonardo Pitts and the article by Beth J. Harpo was about how tecnollegy has really affected our lives. We never really realize that tecnollagy is almost taking over our lives. More and more people keep becoming less intellegent.
Four facts I learned while reading this article were: only 28% of high school science teachers follow the guidlines to present students with evidence. I learned that the word complacency is the feeling of comfort, not aware of danger. I learned that ingenuity is to be inventive. I also learned that revered is intellegence.
I thought the second article was amazing by how the mother got rid of all of thier electronic divices in there home. I thought the first article was confusing. I think it means that America is getting dumber everyday, because we are relying on electronics to do all of our work. I would reccomened this article to people who sit infrontd of the t.v. all day.
This weeks articles were "Losing the race for intelligence" by Leonard Pitts and "What happened when mom unplugged teens for six weeks" by Beth J Harpaz. Leonards article talked about how the USA is becoming dumber. Beths article talked about what technology did to her family. Both articles take place nationwide.
I learned that 60% of science teachers are not encouraging students to believe in revolution. The "giant" is the USA. That technology effects your grades. Technology can make you have bad habits.
I liked both articles. The first article encouraged me to spread the word that we need to be smarter even if self esteem is at risk. The second article made me think of ways I can use less technology. I would recommend Beths article to moms and Leonards article to teachers.
"Losing the race for Intellience" by Leonard Pitts, and "What happens when mom up plugs teens for six months" by Beth Harpaz. these articles where about learning and study habits. The authors told little stories to inform you. 60% of students cheat.
I learned the following from this article: 1: 60% of students cheat. 2: Not many students use the national research council. 3: The giant in the "Losing the race for Intellience"piece was preferred to the U.S. 4: Kids do homework while they are either on Facebook, texting, or e-mail.
I didn't like either of these articles. They really didn't make any sense. I think we should read something more our reading level. I would recommend this to people high school and up.
"Losing the Race for Intelligence"/"What happens when mom unplugs teens for six months?" by: Leonard Pitts/Beth J. Harpaz is about teachers giving their students the easy way out. Because of kids cuteness they get told they are right when they are wrong. Teachers around the US dumb down their lessons so that kids grades stay up.
Three facts that I learned from this article were............. -A few kids because of their cuteness get a pass even when they are wrong. -Some teachers dumb down their lessons so their student's grades don't drop. -By taking away technology an experiment shows that kids grades rise exponentially.
I would recommend this article to parents so if their kids need help they could ask instead of relaying on the teacher to stop the other students from learning what they are suppose to. I don't think it is a good idea to dumb mown school lessons. Because it is certainly a problem if one student is not going to learn what they are suppose but when it's going to keep the other 20 or so students waiting then that could be a problem.
"Losing the race for intelligence" by Leonard Pitts was about americans not being very smart. we also had the chane to read another article " what happens when a mother unplugs a teen for 6 months" that article was about a mother taking all of her teens electronics away for 6 months to do an experiment.
Here are some fun facts i learned. i learned that 28% of teachers teachfrom there guidlines. also some parents dont care if there kids dont learn stuff. 60% of teachers dont believe in the evilution.
i thought that the article was bad because they focased on younger kids like from 1st to 4th grade. i would recomend this piece to parents and younger kids in america.
"Losing the Race for Intellegents" was an artical by Leanard Pitts and "What happens when mom unplugs teens for 6 months?" was by Beth J. Harpaz. These articals pretty much just talks about two stories, one is more a fairytale and the other is not. The 1st story talks about a stupid giant and the stupid giant represents the United States. The 2nd article is about a mom who unplugs all of her kids electronics for 6 months.
4 facts I learned from the article were: 1.I learned what the word "Surpassed" mean.(You move ahead of something) 2.I leaned what the word "Byproducts" means. (A type of results) 3.I learned what the word "Blithe" means. (Arregamnt or sneaky) 4.I leanred what the word "Hindrance" means. (An opstacal or block)
I thought this article was ok. I liked the 2nd story better then the 1st because it was more straight forward. But overall I didn't like it that much. I recommend this article to people living in the United States and teens.
"Losing the Race for Intelligence" and "What Happens When Mom Unplugs Teens for Six Months" is an article by Leonard Pitts and Beth J Harpaz. This article is taken place worldwide. The first article was about a giant that was not always stupid he was actually smart but lost it and became stupid. The second article was about how this mom took away all electronics for six months.
Four facts i learned from this article is: 1. 28% of teachers follow NRC guidelines encouraging them to present students with evidence of evolution. 2. 13% advocate creationism or intelligence design. 3. you will find more interests and discover new things that you like. 4. you get more things done in your free time instead of playing video games.
My overall thoughts on this article: the first article was boring. It didn't make alot of sense and it had a lot of words that i didn't know. The second article was OK. It didn't really catch my attention at all. I recommend this article to teachers and for the second one, to people who play video games all the time.
The two articles that we read this week are “Losing the Race for Intelligence” and “What happens when your mom unplugs teens for 6 months?” This week we read two articles. The first one was about the USA and how it’s losing power. And the second article is about how moms take away TV, iPods and videogames from teens. The articles are taking place worldwide.
The for facts that I learned are. 1. What the word utterance means. 2. What the word stratagems means. 3. That the USA is losing power. 4. What taking TV away can do to you?
I liked both articles because. The first one let you know what was happening in the USA. And the second one wound you that stuff can be taken away. I would recommend both articles to kids.
"Losing the Race For Intelligence" was an article by Leonard Pitts this article was about how the United States is becoming dumber than before. "What Happens When Mom Unplugs Teens For Six Months" was an article by Beth Harpaz. This article was about how a mom takes away her teens electronics for six months to do an experiment.
Here are four facts i learned while reading this article -When kids are young and they say something wrong adults don't correct them. -The United States has become dumber than before. -If you don't use electronics you will become dumber. -28% of teachers teach that we evolved from apes.
I liked this article. It told about how teachers teach the wrong things sometimes. I thought it was kind of confusing to read this article though. I would recommend this article to the whole United States.
There were two articles "losing the race for intellience"was about people not being smart.we also read another article "what happens when mom unplugs teen for six months".It was about how we use electronics to much
four facts I learned were: 1:28% of teachers teach from there guidlines 2:60% of teachers don't belive in evoloution 3:13% of students belive in creationism 4:people still belive in evoloution.
I thought the article was good because it told us not to use electronics alot.I can't belive that ladys kids found new interests besides electronics.I would recomend this article to anyone.
"Losing the race for intelegence by; Leonard Pitts, was the first article that i read, it was about a smart giant that became dumb. I think that the giant simbolizes the united states and how other countries are catching up to us. The second article that i read was called "What happens when mom unplugs teens for 6 months"?It was about a mom that makes a fantastic difference in her childeren's lives by not allowing them to us there computers, phones, and video games.
Four facts that i learned from the articles are... 1.I learned that envey is where you wish you were just like someone else. 2.i also learned that advocate means to incourage. 3.I found out that inhabited means to live there. 4.Did you know that dropping electronics can help you do better in school because your more focused.
I liked these articles because they were funny (first one) and discriptive. I think that it is a good idea to drop electronics every now and then because not only does it teach your children that they can find somthing better to do in there free time rather than sit down and watch tv. But it also teach them that it is important to get exercise. I would recomend this article to electronic addicts.
"#1; Losing race for intelligance" was By Lenaord Pitts. The article was abut america getting dumber. It had a nice little story to go along with it about a giant, who lost it's intelligance."#2 What happens when mom unplugges tenns for 6 months" was by Beth J Harpz. That article was about a mom unplugging her teens for 6 months. The family rediscoverd some old values. Four facts I learned from this article are 1. 60% of students cheat 2. Most tenns can't do their homework with out listening to music. 3.losinf intelligance did not happen over night. 4.We could get better grades if we were unplugged for 6 months.
I thought this article was interesting. This is a really big deal, we need to fix it. Our nation needs to "shape up". I would reccomend thi sarticle to evryone!
"Losing the Race for Intelligence" and "What Happens When Mom Unplugs Teens for 6 Months" were two articles written byt Leonard Pitts and Beth J. Harpaz hat we recently read. These articles gave good information about these two topics. These articles talk about intelligence and unplugging teens. Some words were not understandable but able to look up. These articles take place nationwide.
Four facts I learned about these articles are... 1. 60 percent of science teachers cheat on students to make them pass a test and not telling them to believe. 2. Unplugging teens can change people. 3. Creationism means a religious belief. 4. Conventional means turning away from alternative methods of treatment.
I didn't really get the point of the first article. I thought the second article was kind of interesting. I don't like the idea of two articles because it gets confusing to me. i would recommend this article to everyone.
This weeks article was called "losing the race for intelligence" by Leonard Pitts/"What happens when mothers unplugs a teen for 6 months. This weeks article was about people becoming less intteligent because cumputer use. the second atticle was about moms taking away electronic for 6 moths for a expirement. the common thing about both was elecronics.
the 4 facts that i learned were 1.some parents can care less if their kids dont learn anything 2. some techers make their classes easier so students dont drop out 3. 60% of kids cheat 4. most kids do homework on the cumputer.
i did not like the 1 or 2 aticle. I dont think it is a good idea to make lessons easier. i also think this article was kind of confusing because their were lots of words i did not know.
The articles names were "losing the race for intelligence" and "What happens when mom unplugs teens for six months. The first was written by Leonard Pitts and the second was by Beth J. Harpaz. The article talked about how the US is falling behind as a country and how dumb we are as a country.
Four facts I learned were: 1. 60% of teacher tell there students if they don't believe in evolution its OK. 2. The Winter of our disconnect is 16.95 3. Only 28% of HS teachers follow requirements. 4. Kids are addicted to electronics.
I thought the first article was very confusing. I thought it was a good idea for the mom to talk away the electronic and stuff because they were addicted. I would recommend this article to parents whose kids use a lot of electronics.
We read two combined articles "Losing the Race for Intelligence" and What Happens when Mom Upluggs Teens for Six Months?" by Leonard Pitts and Beth J. Horpaz. They were about how today's younger American population is growing less interested in education and teachers are dumbing down work to acommidate stupider students. We are letting other countrys rise above us and we are too busy playing Black Ops or Halo to notice. Completely unplugging can help a lot, although teens are reluctant.
Four things I found interesting are: Teachers are lowering standareds for stupid students. Unplugging can make teens realize there is a world outside of screen. America's IQ level is falling. Some teens actually say "LOL" instead of laughing.
I think this article assesed a important and growing issue. The giant is definitly America's youth. We need to step up out game if we don't want other countrys to pass us up. I would recommend this article to students who are too involved in video games and facebook and such.
After reading this article "Losing the race of intellegence" The summary of this would have to bethat this article is mainly about that mmost americans are losing alot of there intellegenceand the us is one of the least educated country bisedes from all othe countreys. This article is taking place nation wide because its not just occuring in a couple states its happening everywere. Four facts i learned from this article are... 1.americas people's intellegence is going down down and somthng has to be done. 2.28% of science teachers follow the book line by line thats a low percentage. 3.60% of students cheat on tests and lower there intellegence rate. 4.When teens are away from all electronics there grades and intellegence rates get higher and higher because here not so distracted by alll electronics and concentrate on school work. My overalll thoughts on this articles are... I think that the intellegence is terrible and the government should take alot more action on this article because the united states doesn't want a reputation to be stupid so thats why bi think the government should do more about the intellegence of this topic. :)
The article talks about how a mom did an experiment by unplugging her 14, 15 and 18 year old for six months. The results were that they their grades improved and they replaced electronics with something else. Also that got them more family time.
Four facts I’ve learned are that taking out electronics can improve grades. That electronics can effect peoples grades. The mom wrote a book called “Winter of Our Disconnect.” The simple things can make a big difference in knowledge.
My thoughts are that the Internet and more hold people back in schoolwork. That moms can do world changing experiments. Also the evolution of technology can create distractions in peoples work.
The articles this week were "Losing The Race For Intelligence" by Leonard Pitts and "What Happens When a Mom Unplugs Teens For Six Months. The 1st one was about America dumbing down and the other was about a mom who took away electronics from her kids for six months in the USA. Four facts I learned are that the mom took away all electronics for six months. One of her kids was so mad that she moved out. America has been getting dumber. America's not as much of a world power anymore. I'm surprised there were two articles. The giant example for the first one was confusing. For the second one, I thought it was cool what the mom did, but I wouldn't want to experience it. I recommend this article to Americans.
"LOsing the race for intelligence" Author:Lenoard Pitts The article was weird. There was two articles.the first article was about a giant and the other one was aboutUnpluging your teens for 6 months. This article took place in Miami Herald
Examining data from a representative survey of 929 high schools bio teachers. Many teens they couldent do there homework. Teens listen to music updating faceboook and sending messages. Maushant decided to unplug hie family.
Myover all thoughts on the article where that the article was confusing. Also weird. But now i no stuff that i dident know befor. I would recommend this article to everyone.
The title of this article is "Losing the rate for Intelligence and what happens when mom unplugs teens for 6 months." This is by Beth.J.Harpaz, Lenard Pitts, Miami Herald. This article is about the USA not being very intelligent. And how the USA needs to be more eduacted. And how people are giving kids the wrong answer so they don't feel bad. This is taking place in the USA.
Four facts I learned from this article are.. 1. People in the USA are not very intelligent. 2. People are giving kids wrong answers so the don't feel bad like 2+2=17. 3. The USA isn't getting smarter. 4. It seems as if people can't live without technology.
My overall thoughts are people should treat the kids the right way. We may never be smart if we keep teaching the wrong thing. America should teach the righ thing so we can be alot more smart. I reccomend this to teachers.

What Happens When Mom Unplugs teems for 6 Months
"LOsing the race for intelligence"
Author:Lenoard Pitts
The article was weird.
