"Kids who skip school are tracked by GPS" is an article by Eric Carpenter about how kids who skip school can cause lots of problems and therefore are being tracked by GPS. They are more likely to be in gangs and could go to Juvenile detention. The ANAHEIM school district is giving kids with four unexcused absences a GPS to track the tween/teen. The ANAHEIM school district is in California.
Four facts I found in the article include: Truant means unexcused absence. Schools loose 35 dollars a day per absent student. Attendance went from 77% to 95% when kids carried the GPS. If caught skipping school unexcused, a kid could face Juvenile Hall and parents could be fined 2000 dollars.
I think this is a brilliant idea and a great subject to write about. It sounds like it will help these kids a lot and reduce gang activity in that area. I think the parents who disagree are just afraid that their kid will get caught doing something bad. I would recommend this article to state people who give schools grants so that more schools can have this.
