"Teaching for America" was an article written by Thomas Friedman. This article talked about education in the United States in comparison to the rest of the world. The United States has fell behind many countries in education, and many feel this is directly effecting us economically as a country. Moving forward, many changes are coming to the field of education including the recruitment of top tier teachers to lead our students.
I found the follow to be interesting after reading the article: 25% of high school students in the United States drop out or fail to graduate. 75% of young Americans are not eligible for the military because they either do not have a high school diploma, have a criminal record, or are physically unfit. Singapore, South Korea, and Finland are currently outperforming the United States in education. Three skills identified in the article students need to succeed in the future economy: critical thinking / problem solving skills, ability to communicate effectively, and the ability to work with others.
As a teacher, I enjoyed reading this article. I take a lot of pride in the job I do, and it bothers me that we are falling behind as a country in education. I don't feel enough emphasis is given to education in our country, and I don't think enough people take it seriously. I would recommend this article to anyone who is in the education field, or is a current student in any capacity.
"Teaching for America" was about how many kids in america drop out of high shool and can't get a good job. people think that we need to raise the standards for better teachers. People also think that we need detecated parents to encourage kids to do better in school. I learned the following after reading this article:75% of americans between the ages of 17-24 can't enlist in the military because they did not graduate high school. One quarter of american students drop out or fail to graduate high school on time. Places where students score high on tests are from countries where their teachers are from the top one third of thier graduating class. Also if people never graduate and can't get a job and it affects our econemy. This article really surprised me because I didn't know how many people actually didn't graduate high school. I think it is a good idea to hire teachers who where in the top one third of their graduating class and I think it could really help our econemy. Also I think that the biggest problem is that parents aren't supporting thier kids to do better in school and I think if that changes it could really help the problem. I would reccomened this article to teachers and students.

My overall thoughts on this piece was.. i thought this piece was OK. It wasn't the best because it didn't interest me at all. It was kinda boring all the way through the piece. It wasn't one of those pieces that hook you onto the piece the whole time. I would recommend this piece to students, teachers, and parents.

Because it told about how teachers become teachers and all the facts about what happens to most high schoolers. i would recommend this to any high schooler or someone who wants to graduate high school.
TEACHING FOR AMERICA by Thomas Friedman is about American kids needing a better education system. Some other countries only let people from the top third of their college graduating class become teachers making the teachers smarter and the kids.Half of our current teachers will retire in the next decade. 1/4 of US high school students eventually drop out. I thought this piece was boring but I support getting better teachers. I like the idea of a westpoint for teachers. Also a lot of countries are already a lot smarter than us so we need too get better faster. I don't like this article so I don't recommend it to anyone.

Education can be seen as a national security issue. Places where students score high on tests are from countries where their teachers are from the top one third of thier graduating class.
I did not like this article at all. This article didn't stick out to me because it felt like words on a page (witch they are) but I would personally like to read something that would pull me in!!! I liked last weeks article way better than this one. I would recommend this to parents and teachers.
We read the article "Teaching for America" by Thomas Friedman. Its about how we need to have a higher graduation rate in America. Other countrys have higher educaton becuase they hire good teachers and take time to figure out who should be in who's class. We also need our parents to turn off the TV and talk to their kids about a serious education.

Other countrys put huge amounts of effort into finding good teachers. One quarter of our high school students fail to graduate on time or do not graduate at all, instead dropping out.

In Finland and Denmark only 1/3 of the top graduating students get to be teachers while there are 3.2 million teachers today.
I liked this article but although I think when we get older, like in our high school years, teachers and staff should try to prevent from failing or dropping out by giving students who score an F should have a second chance to score better. That way they (meaning teachers and students) can prevent from failing and drop-out. I would recommend this article to people that are in the teaching profession and who are looking into it.

I also learnd that 1 million students per year leave scool for the streets every year. But we are trying, trying to overcome this hill that we made for ourselves by starting campaigns such as the 'National Teacher Campaign'.
What the 'National Teacher Campaign' is, is a campaign to get people into that proffeson. I would recomend this article to High Schoolers so that they understand how important there education is.

"Teaching for America" by Thomas Friedmen is about how we need teachers that really want to teach. Also how kids are dropping out of school or not graduating. It is about how everyone involved with school needs to step it up. This article is taking place in the United Stated.
Four facts that I learned from the article are: how it is so important to stay in school and that so many people don't stay in school. Also that it isn't just students and teachers who have word harder it is also parents. And that people are making organizations to improve teaching! Talk about dedicated!
Over all I took from this article is that you have to stay in school! Ya sure you need good teachers to give you a good education but you can't get that education with out you staying in school. That is why I am going to stay in school. I would recommend this article to anyone involved with a school.
The article "Teaching For America" by Thomas Friedman is about teachers and their pay. In certain areas, teachers get more pay. People are trying to get teachers more money. The article is takes place world wide.
I learned that teachers don't get the same pay. 25% of people fail highschool. You can't be in the army if you fail school. There are 3.2 million teachers in the U.S.A.
this article was boring! Kids are not interested in teacher pay. Kids should'nt read this. I would recommend this article to teachers.
In "Teaching For America"by Thomas Friedman was about kids that drop out of school or don't get there diploma. In the article they said something about parents shuting off eletronics and playing them after they do there homework. It also said something about teachers in foreign countries have to be one of the top students in there collage to be teachers.
Four facts I learned were over 25% of people drop out of school every year in the high school because they don't do their homework and don't study. And there are 3.2 active teachers in america. And 1 million people leave schools to head for the streets because they can't aford anything. like I said before people in foreign countries have to be one of the top people in acedemics in order to be a teacher.
My overall thoughts were it was a great lesson for kids to start devoloping good study habbits for their future. and i agree that parents should shut eletronics and focus on homework. And i think teachers should be strict on studying for their students.I recommend this article for people that are or will be a teacher.
"Teaching for Amarica" was written by Thomas Friedman. The article was about education. In Amarica alot of students drop out of high school. Other contries have better education system. This article is taking place world wide.
The four facts that I learnd are that 75% of young Americans can not are unable to enlist in the military because they do not do good in school. Another fact that I learnd was that a million people leave school for the streets each year. I also did not know that Amarica is out educated and one quarter of students fail to graduate on time.
I think America should have a better school system. America should have more support for their teachers. Parents should be more responsible for their children. I would reccomend this article to teachers.
"Teaching for America" By: Thomas Freidman, was an article about how some kids drop out or fail to graduating. Also it was about some countries are out preforming us in teaching.
In the article I learned the fowlloing. Americans 17-24 are unable to enlist in the military because they failed to graduate. Also I learend that one-quarter of U.S students fail to graduate, also South Korea, Singapore, and finland are out preforming, and students who don't graduate may end up with a criminal.
I really liked this article, because it taught me something, and something big too. And some day I would like to be a teacher so it kind of made me aware. I would recomend this article to teachers who know students who want to drop out of school, so they can help them make the right desscion.
In the article "Teaching for America" by Thomas Friedman, explains that many high school students are failing and we need to fix that. Due to the failing students can drop-out and not receive high school diploma. This article is mostly about lack or misuse of education. This article mostly takes place in high school and world wide.
In this article I learned that 25% of students can't graduate because of drop-out or failing. While then 75% of young americans are unable to join the military because of no diploma, criminal record, or they aren't physically fit. In Finland and Denmark only 1/3 of the top students get to be teachers while there are 3.2 million teachers today.
I think that when we get older, like in our high school years teachers and staff should try to prevent from failing or dropping out by giving students who score an "F" should have a second chance to score better that way they, teachers and students, can prevent from failing and dropping out. I would recommend this article to people who are in the teaching profession now and who are looking into it.
