Article of the Week Reflection - Faraway Planet Could Support Life

Do you believe there is life on other planets? why? or why not?
I am undecided if I believe in life on another planet because I think it is possible that there could be, but I don't think it is very likely. I also think that if there was life on another planet we would probably know about it by now. I think that if there is any life on another planet it will probably be plants or trees. I don't think it will be anything like a person. That's why I am undecided if I believe in life on another planet.

I think we will make contact with life on another planet because there are other things out in space that we haven't even discovered yet! Like the new planet Gliese 581, if people discovered that well, couldn't there be another thing we humans could discover? If we could discover life on another planet and have plant life, water, and a good distance from it's star on it, people could live there. That would be a whole new thing to us.

No i do not think so. Because when they were talking about the planet that possibly has life on it I was excited. But then they said it would take 200 years to actully get to this planet in the first place! And I am 110% positive that no one in this world will ever live for 200 years! So it would be pretty much impossible to get to the planet befor you die. But even if there was a closer planet to earth that had life on it you would still probably die before you could reach this planet!

I fee that the way that science is evolving the way it is, I feel at some point we will make contact with life on another planet. Paul Butler of the Carnegie Institution for Science said astronomers will find life supporting planets soon.

I have never been into science fiction or the idea of life on other planets. The idea of this is difficult for me to imagine. Although the universe is a very large place, and anything is possible.
Establishing contact with other life forms, a good or bad thing?
I don't see this as being a happy ending when discussing contact with other life forms. How will the two sides communicate? What is going to happen if contact is made. I wonder if anyone has watched any movies that have dealt with this topic, and how the movies portrayed this.
In case you can't tell, I am out of my element here.
Q1. Do you believe in life on other planets
I do believe that there is life on other planets because if there is water on the planet that isn't frozen or isn't to hot all year around. I think that there is be life if because they might find a oxygen that will spread the whole planet so it can have life on the planet. if there is water on a planet i think that that planet has oxygen for people to live on
i do belive that there is life on other plants maybe even gleinse 581 i do because if there is water on a plant and it is close enough to the sun i don't no why there couldn't be.i am not sure that it would be a good thing that we made contact with life on a different plant because they might want more space and tried to take control of our plant.

I do but I also don't because people might try living on another planet but usually another planet is freezing year round with the highest tempature of 10-20 degees. Making alot people not want to live there. I kinda think because planet-hunters are finding planets it seems like there finding alots of new planets so thats why I am so-so

i don't think there is life on other planets because most of the planets are too cold or hot to have life and almost all of them dont have water which means almost nothing can live on the planet

I don't beleive that there is alieans but I beleve there can be life on other planets. If a planet is the right distance from the sunthen there could be water and if there is water then it is likely that there would be plants.Plants are licing things so in a way I beleve there can be living things on other planets.A planet with life on it that is far away from Earth may be a bad thing. I know that like all stars the sun will die and explode leaving humans with a cold planet that will not fit our living conditions. I also know that that will happen in millions of years but it is never to late to start looking.
Im not positive I do or don't.In order to have life you need water and other resources.I f you don't have them there probably won't be any life on the planet. There also might be life if they don't need the resources that we do.In other word ALIENS!

I think yes because look at us something must of had to make us.And we fit this world. Well earth who knows there might be life on a different plant. And we wont find this planet or plants until a long time after now. Right now its 2010 now we probably wont find this plant or plants until like 3000 or 2030 or some tine around there. Just think we cant be the only living plant in the world so there must be another plant or plants out there.

T mean wi live on Earth if there was life on this new planet their way of life would probley ne different from our way of life. Because most likely we would be the aliens to them. This planet sounds like it corld support life kind of like us.

I think finding other life could be a good or bad thing. The "aliens" could be really smart and might be able to help the earth. Aliens might be a bad thing too. What if they try to take over the earth??? Who wants to be ruled by an alien!!! And, what if the aliens don't speak English? We would have no way to communicate. They would probably think we were bad. Plus, I don't think they'd like scientists experimenting on them.

I dont know because people dont have proof that there is and like the Gliese 581 they have some proof that there is life on it. The thing is that there could be life on other planets that we dont know about and they could discover it in 10-15 years from now. so there could be life on other planets and there couldnt so im not sure! It would be cool if there was life on other planets!
i dont get why they call them alliens they are living breathing things that we think are not human. I think its impossible for any human to reach the planet because its 200 years away, and no human will never live that long so i dont think that we might not be able to talk to them.

i don't think there can alien life on another planets but i do think there can be living organisms, like bacteria it's not visible but it's still living.if there is water there could be living organisms in the water. so i kind of think there is life on other planets but not alien life!!!!!

I do not think there is life on other planets because Earth is the only planet with a livible enviorment. Even though t5hey have got some evedance of life they still don't have all of the facts just yet. Even if there was some living thing on some other planet it would be really hard to believe because there have been miths about "aliens" for years now.

I think we will not contact with life on other planets. Reason being is if we send people to go out to the planet they will probly be dead by the time they are half way there .Also it's not like we can video chat with them or become facebook friends with them!

I do not want to believe that there may be life on other planets, but I must admit that it is entirely possible. If aliens have a different body build than humans, they might even be able to survive life on a planet without water. They may not need sun. They could have green polka-dotted skin. They could be as big as skyscrapers or as small as grains of rice. There are so many possibilitys that I can't say weather or not I believe in aliens, but I guess until further evidence is found, I stand against the theory.

Because they go up to the moon all the time but they stay up there for about 3-4 month so it takes 2 months to get there they still have 1-2 months. to find life.
the question i decided to do was what will happen if we make contact with other life forms and i chose it would be a good thin because if the otther life forms had healing medicine and a bunch of other thing that would make life easyier and we would not have to listen to a bunch of stuff that we need new ways to cure somthing and if they had somthin we dinn't have it would make our lives 20* easyier .and thats what i think
I feel that their has to be life on some other planets in one of the many billions of other galaxies. The problem is how do we find those panets with uor current technologies. Gliese581 is a close star and its 20 light years away. Besides whos to say what type of panet can support life.
